Release notes

0.9.6

Released September 2026. Works with the current TelemFFB beta.

Recovers when another program takes the device. If another application takes control of the force feedback device while TelemFFB is controlling it, DirectLink now attempts to reacquire it and TelemFFB then rebuilds its effects. Previously, effects stayed dead until TelemFFB was restarted. Each recovery is logged, and TelemFFB's error report says whether the device was recovered, whether recovery was deferred, or whether it failed:

  • Mostly "recovered": another application takes the device now and then, and DirectLink gets it back each time.
  • Many "recovery deferred": another application keeps taking the device back. DirectLink backs off rather than fighting over it; find and close that application.
  • "Recovery failed": the device could not be reacquired. Check that it is still connected and working in Windows.

The device's built-in centering stays off after a reset. Resetting the device may re-enable its own built-in centering. DirectLink now turns it back off, so a rebuild or a recovery no longer leaves the stick with two springs and a stiffer feel.

Clearer errors on a lost device. An effect update or a device reset that fails because the device was taken now says so, instead of reporting a generic failure.
